Wham-Os hi rigidity Ultimate discs, also called the HDX, is a disc that is well-suited to more than one purpose. This disc was initially used for freestyle play, because it it easy to control for certain types of tricks. The lighter versions are still used mainly for recreation and freestyle games.

The heavier versions of this disc have become popular as frisbee Ultimate discs. They still allow you the control and finesse of freestyle discs but give you the distance for long passes across the field. While not an official UPA disc, it is close enough for many team captains to agree to use it in their games.

Indeed, the Ultimate frisbee rules allow for the use of Wham-Os hi rigidity Ultimate discs in tournament play-if both team captains and the tournament director agree to it. It is close enough to the specifications that it is often allowed by team captains. It is sometimes fun to change up the game a bit by using a disc you would not normally use.

Hi rigidity Ultimate discs come from a long line of flying discs from the Wham-O company. Though the original plastic discs origins are the subject of some controversy, no one argues against Wham-Os taking the flying disc to new heights of popularity. Wham-Os original Frisbee may not have started the wave; but it certainly rode it in.
