Frisbee: Disc Golf
June 21, 2008 2:53 pm Frisbee, SportsDisc golf is a game of strategy and skill every bit as much as traditional ball golf is. You must deal with many of the same hazards-trees, water, wind, others players. The rules of the games are remarkably similar–in the areas of courtesy, etiquette, assignment of penalty strokes, scoring, and even terminology.
Players discs are known as drivers, fairway drivers, putters, etc. The apparel even seems to be getting eerily similar, with all the collared golf shirts, golf sun visors, disc bags, and golf towels-except for the tie dyed golf towels. Obviously, frisbee golf took after traditional golf; but it seems disc players have more respect for ball golf than vice versa.
Disc golf can take just as long to master as traditional golf. Each disc has certain innate characteristics that can be infinitely adjusted to suit the current situation; just as golf clubs all have innate capabilities that may be infinitely adjusted to suit the current situation. At least smashing your golf disc is usually less expensive than smashing your golf club.
Playing Disc Golf like a Pro
If you take the time to learn and practice, you should be able to play disc golf at an intermediate level in no time. To play like a pro will require diligence and patience. Read books and articles, visit online forums and talk to people who are more skilled than yourself. Feel free to ask stupid questions; that is how you get better.
